Have you thought about coding? Have your kids asked about it? Personally, I know that I had to learn some basic coding to put this website together. However, after doing so I haven’t used that information much, if at all, and honestly couldn’t teach my kids much about it, even if they really wanted to know. That is where this review from CodeWizardsHQ comes in. My two younger kids (12 and 9 year olds) were able to take part in a one time class to see how this program works and help them decide if they want to pursue learning more about coding.
Before we dive into what CodeWizardsHQ offers to homeschoolers take a look at this video from them to get an intro into who they are and what they do.
Now that you have an idea of what they offer I want to share with you our experience with them.
Here is my top 3.
- Great Communication – I have worked with a bunch of great companies on reviews and honestly this company has topped the list for great communication! Part of this I feel is because of their live classes and them wanting to make sure everyone is all set before class begins. However, as a parent it is really comforting to know that if I was to put our hard earned money in their hands I know I can count on them to be there to answer my questions.
- Fun, kid friendly class – While the kids are learning true coding skills that can be brought with them as they advance in computer knowledge, the way it is presented makes it fun for all ages. My kids had a blast being able to create their own comic strip cartoon. This cartoon like atmosphere of the classroom helped my kids to relax and be able to enjoy what they were learning.
- Great Self-Esteem Builder – Because the class is broken up into small steps, my kids were able to quickly see results. It brought about many smiles and a true self-esteem boost that they can do this.
Interested in what my kids were able to create during the 1 hour class?
As you can see they both were not just learning how to code, they were actually coding during class!
Sure this isn’t a huge detailed project but it is a start. A start that both my kids were able to be proud of. Something they could smile about and say, “Look Mom! Look what I created!”
What happens after class?
While we were only able to be part of one live class I did see that there is more that goes on after class for everyone enrolled. CodeWizardsHQ offers a weekly online quiz to help kids review.
They are also able to upload what they have been practicing. Since we didn’t take part in more than one class, honestly this is just a guess, but I suspect as kids get further into the lessons they will be given things to practice after class. When they complete those assignments they would be able to submit they work online to their instructor for some feedback.
This is something that I feel is always on the minds of homeschool parents. There are so many great programs but we need to narrow down what we want with what we can afford. CodeWizardsHQ has a homeschool offer that reduces the price of the program by how many kids are taking part in the weekly classes. At most the program is $149/student/month.
Personally, I feel CodeWizardHQ is pretty pricey, however coding isn’t a huge priority for our family. Is it something my kids would like to learn? Yes, however when I ask them to put any extras in order of preference coding doesn’t make it up to the top of their list. Having said that, if you child is begging you to get them coding classes I would highly recommend this program. It ends up being less than $38/week/child. In most areas this is less than what you would pay for Taekwondo lessons.
