For someone like myself with Dyslexia audio books are a way to not only learn from “reading” but also to enjoy books. Heirloom Audio Productions has taken the idea of audio books and gone way beyond that. Read on to see what their production of In the Reign of Terror offers, and how what they offer just might be a great fit for your homeschool or family.
The “books” they offer are full out drama productions. Unlike audio books which are read by one person their productions are read by a new person for every character, just like seeing a play or watching t.v. By using so many different voices the characters really come alive. Besides just many voices, their productions also have sound effects as well. Things like walking steps, doors closing, crowds chattering, and water splashing. Any effect they put in adds dimension and suspense to the stories.
What an amazing way to learn history. Yes! Heirloom Audio Productions are stories that teach history. In the Reign of Terror teaches about the French Revolution. You and your kids will get the chance to experience the chaos, the unfair justice and the horror that came from the Revolution, all from both sides of the fence. Over the production’s two and a half hours you get to experience what it would have been like to be there. The story starts off with a boy traveling from England to France. While in France he gets sucked into the drama of all the French Revolution held. You get to follow this boy along on his journey as he tries to rescue people and understand what this revolution is all about.
Wow, I can say that after learning about the French Revolution I never really felt a connection to the horror that happened there. However after listening to this story I was just in shock about how terrible things were for so many people. I honestly never liked history as a kid but productions like this gives me hope that my kids will grow up appreciating all the stories of people that history offers.
Now, if all this isn’t enough to get you interested in Heirloom Audio, there is more! Besides the CD productions there is lots more to help with learning history on their membership website. This gives you as a homeschool parent more options to continue the learning.
So what does this membership site, Live the Adventure Club, offer?
For each audio drama production that you have, you will have access to a bunch of bonus content. There is a downloadable study guide with review questions, essay or discussion questions as well as vocabulary words to consider studying. The best part is that this study guide has all of this for every chapter/track!
Looking for more fun ways to engage? How about having your kids complete the study guide questions online and getting virtual badges to add to your account. Bonus is that for each badge they earn, you get points that when added up can be used to make purchases on their store.
If that is not all, how about getting the full soundtrack to listen to. There is also a downloadable desktop wallpaper, inspirational verse poster and a cast poster, and the e-book with color graphics to download . Last but definitely not least is the ability to view the full script the cast used when recording the productions. While viewing this you can have the production playing in the background and the words will be highlighted as each word is spoken by the cast. What a great opportunity to help your new or beginning readers recognize more words. This would have been so helpful for my Dyslexic self growing up.
That honestly is just the beginning of what this membership site offers. There are movie reviews, helpful articles for parents, fun relatable crafts for kids to get hands on with their learning, and of course many more CD productions mailed right to your house several times a year.
Going forward I know that we will definitely be listening to more from Heirloom Audio. Interested in what other homeschoolers think of In the Reign of Terror? Click the picture below to be brought to more reviews.
