As a Homeschooling Mom with very busy, active kids, I do not have much time to menu plan. I have, in the past, sat down for hours putting a week’s worth of meal plans together. I would go through my cabinets to find out what we have, pull out our recipe books and pick which meals we could eat with what we have, write out a shopping list of what I would need to buy, pull out coupons to match and then finally go shopping. It really did take hours and hours, with most weeks at about 4 hours per week’s worth of groceries. I decided about a year ago, enough was enough. Something had to give.
Sometimes the simple things are the things that give us the most joy. Today was a great example of this; a special day for Cody and I. We were able to head out, just the two of us, for some much-needed one on one time. Cody came up to me a week ago asking for some money, so he could buy our family Christmas presents. He really felt bad that he didn’t have anything to give everyone. We talked about how hard money is to earn, and that if he really wanted to buy presents for everyone, he would have to earn the money, just like Dad does. Cody came in earlier today, from doing chores outside, and mentioned to me that his winter boots really hurt his toes. Oh no, was my first thought, it can’t be. I just bought them at the end of last winter, 2 sizes bigger than he needed. But it was true. They are too small already, and this close to Christmas.
