As a Homeschooling Mom with very busy, active kids, I do not have much time to menu plan. I have, in the past, sat down for hours putting a week’s worth of meal plans together. I would go through my cabinets to find out what we have, pull out our recipe books and pick which meals we could eat with what we have, write out a shopping list of what I would need to buy, pull out coupons to match and then finally go shopping. It really did take hours and hours, with most weeks at about 4 hours per week’s worth of groceries. I decided about a year ago, enough was enough. Something had to give.
The strangest, coolest, most awesome experience happened to us, the boys and I, around mid December. Something that gave us learning and enjoyment, in the most unexpected way. We had not started school yet. In fact, I was still in my pjs and bathrobe, on my computer preparing for our school day. I hear from downstairs “Mom, come quick!”. I rush down the stairs to get the story quickly retold by two kids at once.
Scheduling is a hard topic for me, since I really do not like schedules very much. I would rather go with the flow and see where things lead, but I know that does not work for us as a family. When I do this, the housework doesn’t get done and school takes a back burner to my desires at the time. To keep from letting things slip, we have to have some sort of schedule. Not so much a schedule, but a routine.
Just the thought of writing a sentence is hard for my little ones, but to write a whole letter, NO WAY. It just isn’t going to happen. Does that mean that they can’t take part in this yearly tradition? Of course not. We just have to modify it a bit, just like all their school work. So how do we modify it? Easy.
Today is our official first work day back from our mini trip to visit family. I must say, it is so hard to get back into a routine. Not just for myself, but getting the kids back into a routine as well. For myself, getting into the swing of things again, after a break, is so overwhelming, thank you ADHD. Where do I start? This time around we have it a bit easier, since we are taking this week off from our homeschooling. There really isn’t a good way to ease back into it all, but we have found some tips that help, at least a little bit.
The Adventure Begins? Well maybe not the full adventure, but at least this trip, the trip of starting a Blog. I have prayed, listened, waited, questioned and now here I am moving forward with what I believe God has in mind for our chaotic family, the adventure of blogging.
