Living in Vermont the winter seems to be almost half the year. So when the weather lightens up a bit we need to take advantage of it. What do we consider lightening up? Anything above freezing. This week we have been blessed to have the temperature be above 35 degrees almost every day! Some days it was even raining. Really, raining in the winter here is crazy. Typically this time of year we are shoveling ourselves out of mountains of snow. So, with there not being much snow on the ground we are taking to the great outdoors. It is time to enjoy an amazing break in the long dreariness of winter and soak in some much-needed sunlight. When people think of Vermont […]
Blanket Fort Building Fun & Tips
Today I want to talk to you about something that is almost a right of passage during childhood. Something that is a great anytime activity. Something that the whole family can get involved in. What am I talking about? I am talking about building a fort. Yup, a fort using dinning room chairs, large sheets/blankets and lots of imagination. Something about crawling into a homemade place to play, sleep and chill helps make a common area in the home seem magical. Even though this activity can be done anytime, winter is a great time to bring some more fun to the house. Hey, we are stuck inside most of the time anyway so let’s make the most of it right? Not only is […]
Homeschool Procrastination and What to Do About It
With a New Year in motion my procrastinating self tends to do a mini freak out over how much homeschooling we have or have not done. At the beginning of the school year, the time we have for lessons seems more than plenty long. However, with the new year here the realization that almost half the school year has gone by starts to make me think. What have I been putting off to the back burner that really needs to come forward in our lessons? What am I spending too much time on that I can tame down? The why we are where we are isn’t a question because with ADHD rampant in our house, things just don’t always go as planned. So what is […]
6 Feed the Birds Kid Activities
During this time of year kids are beyond excited with Christmas on it’s way. They can’t seem to stay still for very long at all. The best thing I can do as a Mom, to keep my sanity, is to keep them busy. One thing we like to do this time of year is to feed the birds. Snow is falling as I write this, which means there is less available for the birds to easily eat. Over the years we have tried many different types of bird feeders, but no matter what type we have tried, the kids have always had fun. So, this year I figured I would get to work, showing you all some great ideas, recipes and tips for taking on […]

It’s Almost Here…The Big Game
I don’t know about you, but I am not a huge sports person. Granted I was a cheerleader way back when, but that seemed so much more exciting than just sitting on my couch watching professionals play. However, this time of year The Big Game is all the talk. I may not like to watch sports but my hubby sure does. So what is a girl to do when The Big Game hits? Give in and make the most of it. The Big Game can be fun, if you are willing to let go of your thoughts on sports and just enjoy the other parts to this sporting tradition. What parts you ask? The food, company, and advertisements. Company In our house, we have usually […]
5 Ways to Think of the Winter Blues as Blessings
The Christmas and New Year’s holiday rush has ended. Homeschooling began a couple of weeks ago and now it has hit…the Winter Blues. Blues? or Itch? Blues seem so negative and well that is because they are. To me, the itch is a new beginning, and that is a much more positive way of looking at this time of year. So what are the positives and how can we get away from looking at this time of year as the Blues? That is just what this is all about. Hopefully you to can go from thinking of the Blues to the Itch by the end of this post. The Many Blessing of these Winter Months House gets more Organized As I have written about in other […]
Small Space, Big Challenges – Winter Gear
This is the second post in our small space series. If you missed the first one, Small Space Big Challenges and Solutions , check it out as it talked all about purging to enjoy the space you have more. Today, we are going to go into how to handle all that winter gear when space is limited. Every place we have lived in, we have had a small entry way. Not sure how that has happened but it is what it is. In our current house, our entry way is also our dinning area. I won’t say room because it is more of a corner in a walkway. We also do not have a closet. Seriously, no entry closet. Actually almost no closets at […]
