Cody came in earlier today, from doing chores outside, and mentioned to me that his winter boots really hurt his toes. Oh no, was my first thought, it can’t be. I just bought them at the end of last winter, 2 sizes bigger than he needed. But it was true. They are too small already, and this close to Christmas.
Now one pair of shoes too small before Christmas we can handle, but just last week Cody came up to us because his sneakers, which fit by the way, were leaking through the soles. Really? We had just bought them 2 months before and now he needs new winter boots. Add to that, tonight when I put on my coat, the zipper split. Oh, and I forgot to mention that when we went to go find everyone’s mittens from storage, Hayden’s mittens are among the missing. All within one week! Talk about a hit to our budget.
There are two ways to look at all this.
- Why me? What are we going to do to keep to our budget? Uhh, it’s just one of those weeks.
- My faith is being tested, and I know God will pull us through. He always has.
I can tell you that I have been on both sides of that fence for many different situations, but in the end realize that it all had to do with testing my faith…and building patience. Something I know God has been working on with me, not to mention my parents, ever since I was little. You could say, I was a strong-willed child for sure.
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience.
James 1:3 NKJV
We don’t have everything figured out quite yet. But I know that things will work out soon, and just maybe, my patience will have grown a bit. Kind of like, my kids feet growing, in such a short period of time. So for now, I will be memorizing James 1:3, and visiting a local thrift store to tie us over. Maybe some of those needed items will be under the tree come Christmas morning. Hint, Hint
Are you in a similar situation this close to Christmas? What side of the faith fence are you on?
